Providence UMC starts Women's Ministry with Motivational Message from
SPANISH FORT, Ala. - With gifts to buy, halls to deck, trees to trim,
fruitcake to eat and the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it's
all too easy to stress out and lose sight of why we celebrate in the
first place. The new women's ministry program at Providence United
Methodist Church invites women of all ages to learn how to cope with
holiday stress during a free seminar on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 3-4:30 p.m.
Providence UMC member Drexel Gilbert will be the keynote speaker for
the kickoff celebration of the new women's ministry program, which
offers several groups meeting weekly or monthly in the mornings or
evenings. Childcare will be available at the church, located at 9543
Stagecoach Road in Spanish Fort, just west of the intersection of Hwys.
181 and 31.
Those attending the kickoff event should bring a child's toy to be
donated to a local hospital. For more information about women's

is laced with faith and offers scripture-based, practical and often
humorous advice for keeping your perspective and peace during the
often-stressful holiday season.
While still in college, Gilbert embarked on a television news career
that would span nearly 30 years. She spent most of that time reporting
and anchoring for television stations in the Mobile-Pensacola market.
This year, she embarked on a new venture as a Motivational Speaker and
Image Consultant. She recently led a one-day motivational seminar
entitled "The Inspired Woman" and has developed a series of "Inspired
Life" seminars for people in all walks of life.
In addition to her work with individuals and corporations, Gilbert has
developed a series of faith-based speeches and workshops. Rooted in
scripture, her inspiring messages are generously sprinkled with humor
and practical advice for living a better life and becoming a better
The Rev. Bob Sweet is pastor at Providence UMC. Sunday School begins at
9 a.m. each Sunday, followed by worship at 10 a.m. Providence UMC has
been designated "A Church for All God's Children" in recognition of
