Providence United Methodist Church will hold a free “Couch to 5K” program to train interested persons to successfully run or walk a 5K race. The eight-week program is designed to train individuals or groups to be ready to participate in the Providence UMC Catfish Chase 5K Run and Walk, which will be held Saturday, April 28.
The Couch to 5K program will begin Sunday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at Spanish Fort High School track. PUMC member Mandie Kinsey, who completed the program several years ago, will facilitate the training program.
There is no charge for Couch to 5K training. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to come on Sunday evenings and should bring a water bottle and arrive about 10 minutes early wearing comfortable clothes and running or walking shoes.
Proceeds from the Catfish Chase 5K go to Providence UMC’s Relay for Life team to provide funds for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. Helping to find a cure for cancer is a special focus for members of Providence UMC, and the church has raised over $40,000 in the past three years to fight this terrible disease.
